Bernd Ziesemer (56) became Managing Director of HOFFMANN UND CAMPE Corporate Publishing, the leading full-service provider for corporate publications. Mr Ziesemer succeeded publisher Manfred Bissinger (70) in this function, who retired from active executive management but continued to be available to the publishing group as a consultant.

The GANSKE VERLAGSGRUPPE took a stake in TICCATS GmbH, a search platform for the purchase of tickets to live events. Partner Dr. Tobias Debuch (37) was appointed as the managing shareholder.

The publishing group also invested in the business of its mail-order book stores and took over the Karlsruhe-based Artservice Internationale Kunstbücher Verlags-GmbH on 1 September 2010, which will be managed at the company FRÖLICH & KAUFMANN in a twin-brand strategy.

The journalist Jenny Levié (44) succeeded Georg Kessler (53) as Managing Director for the Programme of GRÄFE UND UNZER. She was working as an editor at BUNTE and STERN before she took on leading positions at InStyle and BILD and became Editor-in-Chief of  Living at Home

Dr. Ralf Ueding (46) became Managing Director of iPUBLISH Ganske Interactive Publishing GmbH on15 November 2010. He had already worked for the publishing group from 1997 until 2003 and succeeded Andreas Westhoff (41), who left the company. Dr. Ueding and Commercial Director Christine Hillmer (38) formed the executive management. The company moved its registered office from Munich to Hamburg at the end of the year.

The writer, journalist and critic Elke Heidenreich was awarded the Julius Campe Prize, which HOFFMANN UND CAMPE VERLAG awarded for the ninth time in 2010.

The former Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück presented his bestseller Unterm Strich – much debated in political and social circles – at the Heine Villa in Hamburg.

HOFFMANN UND CAMPE VERLAG mourned two celebrated authors; Nobel Prize-winner José Saramago, passed away in his home on Lanzarote at the age of 87 in June. HanneloreLoki” Schmidt, honorary citizen of the city and wife of former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, died in October. Her book entitled Auf einen Kaffee mit Loki Schmidt was published posthumously

Roman Maria Koidl wrote a bestseller for HOFFMANN UND CAMPE with his book Scheißkerle – Warum es immer die Falschen sind and was on the SPIEGEL Bestseller List for 30 weeks.

TRAVEL HOUSE MEDIA went into a licence joint venture with a major foreign publishing house. 15 titles from the series MERIAN live! were published with China Science Publishing Group Co. (CSPG) from 2011. Up to 100 titles are planned.

Three golds, three silvers and an entry in the Hall of Fame was the impressive success of HOFFMANN UND CAMPE Corporate Publishing at the gala BCP Award Ceremony held at Hamburg’s Grand Elysée Hotel. This was the third time in succession that HOFFMANN UND CAMPE CP had won the most awards in Europe’s biggest corporate publishing competition. BMW Magazine, new spaces, the company magazine of Gaggenau Hausgeräte GmbH , the business customer magazine concepts BY HOCHTIEF and results, the magazine for business customers of Deutsche Bank, received the Good Design Award. Managing Director Dr. Andreas Siefke was appointed Chairman of Forum Corporate Publishing (FCP), Europe’s biggest association for Corporate Publishing Service Providers. At the 1st International Corporate Media Award (ICMA), the publishing house won a gold award for MAX JOSEPH, the magazine for the Bavarian State Opera and ten Awards of Excellence.

The company addressed the issue of change in the media and the economic crisis with a new organisational structure entitled “JAHRESEITEN VERLAG 2010”. The core of the concept was reorganisation of the magazine editorial teams. Each title is organised, designed and managed by a pagemaker team made up of Editor-in-Chief, art director, desk editor and a number of section heads who are responsible for the core competences of the page. The teams are supported by service pools.

Hamburg-based JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG founded the company  4SEASONS DIGITAL.NET where all the activities of the publisher in the new media are grouped together organisationally. Sebastian Ganske is Managing Director of the subsidiary company.

JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG continued to invest in the future of its magazine VITAL and acquired the title rights and subscriber base of the magazine HEALTHY LIVING. The publisher launched a preserving, healthy nutrition concept with interactive VITAL Diet Coach on vital.de which is tailored individually to each individual user. The campaign is supported by a VITAL team of experts.

Sabine Fäth (43) became Editor-in-Chief of the fortnightly classic women’s magazine FÜR SIE published by Hamburg-based JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG. She succeeded Ute Kröger (49). Starting in February 2011, FÜR SIE was published with new content and design.

 Dr. Michael Silvio Kusche (34) became Chief Publishing Manager of PRINZ and continued in his role as Deputy Publishing Manager of JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG, looking after the magazine PETRA and the portfolio New Lines of Business.

Journalist Anne Urbauer (51) was appointed as Editor-in-Chief of COUNTRY.

Gourmet magazine DER FEINSCHMECKER presented the actor Jan Liefers with the WINE AWARD, celebrating his achievement as the Wine Gourmet of the Year at Schloss Bensberg.

500 invited guests came to A&W Architektur und Wohnen in Cologne to attend the award ceremony for the prestigious A&W Design Prize, which was presented to design trio FRONT.

Germany’s biggest reading group LESERKREIS DAHEIM developed a new promotion idea to attract subscribers and set up an initiative on Facebook looking for 50 “rent&read” ambassadors. The mission: Carry out a root-and-branch review of the product range for 100 days – and receive new reading material for enjoyment every week! A trip to New York was the attractive main prize at the end of the process.

The companies in the publishing group strategically expanded their product range in digital media. All the brands have their own sites on the Internet. The Group also introduced 130 mobile applications for smart phones and the iPad. These included the app MERIAN scout Shopping Assistant,a useful shopping compass offering tips on 1,600 attractive shopping outlets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The combined expertise of DER FEINSCHMECKER Hotel & Restaurant Guide became available as a Gourmet App for satnav systems. The PRINZ TOP GUIDE 2010 for navigation systems was introduced to provide information on the most trendy restaurants, clubs and shopping venues, cafés, bars and hotels. The Kitchen Gods application for the iPad provided concentrated culinary expertise at the place where it all happens – the kitchen. Thanks to Community Link, videos and shopping lists became available alongside access to 30,000 recipes. Ipad users were now able to find out everything about Germany’s cities in the PRINZ app. The iPad-App from women’s magazines FÜR SIE, PETRA and VITAL offered exciting times for women. Around 100 books and e-books completed the electronic package of the publishing group.

The Arbeitskreis Mittelständischer Verlage, AMV (working group for small and medium-sized publishers) was founded as an association in order to gain a higher profile for its interests. The Chairman is Hermann Schmidt, Managing Director of JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG in Hamburg. The working group presented the AMV Sales Award “Sally 2010” to Düsseldorf Station book store Götz Grauert.

The German mail-order book stores elected Frederik Palm, Managing Director of RHENANIA as Federal Chairman of their association. The association now represented around 160 book stores.

The Executive Board and the employees were present at a memorial service for Gerd Frölich, the deceased co-founder of FRÖLICH & KAUFMANN.


The sales experts at PSG PREMIUM SALES GERMANY gained two new magazines as customers: the high-circulation golfing magazine GOLFTIME, which had previously been looked after by Burda Medien Vertrieb GmbH, and AZUR, the cruise magazine.
