To mark 100 years since the birth of the publisher Kurt Ganske, HOFFMANN UND CAMPE VERLAG publishes the biography "Halte Schritt. Kurt Ganske und seine Zeit". Professor Jan Philipp Reemtsma is awarded the "Preis der Kritik 2005" (Review Award) at the Frankfurter Buchmesse (Frankfurt Book Fair). Stephan Born is appointed Head of Production at HOFFMANN UND CAMPE.

HOFFMANN UND CAMPE Corporate Publishing publishes the "Best Spirit" and "Best Practice" magazines for T-Systems. The book "Der BMW 6er" and the special BMW magazine "Der neue 1er" are awarded the Good Design Award 2004 by the "Chicago Athenaeum", the US museum of architecture and design. The book about the BMW 6-Series also wins the "MPC-Autobuch-Preis" (MPC Car Book Award) in the category "Bestes Autobuch Design 2005". According to Best of Corporate Publishing (BCP) 2005, Europe's largest competition in this industry, the best corporate publications are by HOFFMANN UND CAMPE Corporate Publishing. Four titles were awarded gold medals and four further titles silver medals. HOFFMANN UND CAMPE Corporate Publishing also redesigns the HaspaJokerMagazin for the Hamburg Sparkasse (Haspa) and develops the newsletter for RWE corporate customers, "RWE kompakt".

launches the spring range with a new motto: "Willkommen im Leben" (Welcome to Life). The new claim stands for even greater dialogue with the customers and readers of Germany's largest publisher of how-to books. GU gives a surprisingly innovative presentation in the retail book trade: as exhibit for book shops, an apartment presents all areas of publishing and experience over an area of 36 square metres. GRÄFE UND UNZER wins the "Best French Cuisine Book in the World" award with the publication "Südfrankreich: Küche und Kultur" (South France: Cooking and Culture). Stiftung Warentest awards the "Ideal-Diät" (Ideal Diet) the rating "very recommended". The new TEUBNER-Edition is presented in Berlin.

Ute Kröger becomes editor in chief of FÜR SIE. The series of special journals is extended to include the titles "Die 100 gesündesten Rezepte" (The 100 Healthiest Recipes), "Die 100 besten italienischen Rezepte" (The 100 Best Italian Recipes), "Die 100 besten Rezepte der Welt" (The 100 Best Recipes from Around the World), as well as "Die 100 besten Beauty- und Mode-Tipps" ("The 100 Best Beauty and Fashion Tips). ZUHAUSE WOHNEN and FÜR SIE together present the special "Die besten Wohnideen rund um die Küche" (The Best Living Ideas for the Kitchen).
DER FEINSCHMECKER (Gourmet magazine) celebrates its 30th anniversary. Its long-standing editor in chief and publisher Jochen Karsten dies at the age of 80. Ulrike Fischer becomes editor in chief of PETRA and awards the first "PETRA German Fashion Award" in Düsseldorf. Regine Kuhlei succeeds Ute Kröger (who came from FÜR SIE) as editor in chief of ZUHAUSE WOHNEN. The journal "Celebrity Living" is now published twice a year. In the second IVW quarter of 2005, all women's magazines published by JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG have higher circulation figures than the previous year.

In the middle of September, JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG publishes the "Funktions-Analyse 2005". It enables media planners, advertising agencies and advertisers to evaluate 171 journals in accordance with various content- and communication-related criteria. A&W Architektur & Wohnen names Richard Sapper (72) "Designer of the Year". With the WINE AWARD 2005, WEIN GOURMET confers the title "Weingourmet 2005" on His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark. In cooperation with Rowohlt Verlag, the book "VITAL - Die Diät" is published as the second book in the new specialist book series. JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG boosts advertising sales: responsibility for this lies directly with the management of the objects. The managing directors are supported by two group heads from the advertising world: Roberto Sprengel (41) for special-interest titles and Michael Menzer (42) for women's journals.

MERIAN and Spiegel Online present "Deutschland Spezial" at www.spiegel.de. The cooperation provides Spiegel online users with access to some 20 articles, a selection of photo galleries from MERIAN and the comprehensive travel database from iPUBLISH containing more than 5000 travel destinations. The MERIAN Extra magazines about Karlsruhe and Osnabrück are published. The Federal Republic of Germany's ice-margin research vessel is named the "Maria Sibylla Merian". It is used to investigate climate change and marine raw materials. JAHRESZEITEN VERLAG takes on the non-profit sponsorship for this vessel; the editorial department of the journal MERIAN is responsible for the on-board library. To mark the visit of the Pope on the occasion of the XX. World Youth Day in Cologne, a MERIAN special edition is published: MERIAN "Köln" and MERIAN "Rom und der Vatikan", which come as an attractive double pack. In MA Print I/05, the DIY magazine SELBER MACHEN achieves the highest coverage in this market. Issue11 appears with a passenger-car supplement in magazine format with more than 100 pages. The MERIAN live! travel guide receives the ITB Award (international tourism trade show Berlin) for the second consecutive year in the "Compact" category. Uwe Distelrath (44) joins TRAVEL HOUSE MEDIA management in Munich as managing director of marketing and sales. On 1 January 2005, LESERKREIS DAHEIM (Home Reading Circle) takes over the "Vereinigter Lesezirkel Schleisiek KG" in Duisburg and concentrates its delivery territory in the Ruhr region.

The "Reisewelt" category starts up under touropa.com at ITB 2005; it contains comprehensive information on travel guides. In addition to tui.com, this means that iPUBLISH now provides a second large customer from the tourism industry with content. iPUBLISH also publishes the new MERIAN maps on ten tourist regions in the Mediterranean. They each combine a large, outline map with comprehensive information about the travel destination and a phrase book. The navigation products are already gearing up for the Football World Cup 2006 and the new CD MERIAN scout Deutschland 2005/2006 DX Executive for Blaupunkt includes all World Cup stadiums, FIFA World Cup shops and public viewing addresses . Furthermore, iPUBLISH introduces Lucca, the first mobile navigation device from Blaupunkt.

PRINZ starts the TRENDGESICHT 2005 model contest in cooperation with the Mega Model Agency and HUGO Parfums. PRINZ TOP GUIDE with up-to-date information, tips, addresses and ratings in relation to gastronomy, shopping, nightlife, sport and wellness is available in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Stuttgart and for the first time also in Leipzig.

The book "Halte Schritt. Kurt Ganske und seine Zeit" by Emanuel Eckardt is published in autumn to mark 100 years since the birth of the publisher Kurt Ganske. He describes the life of a man who transformed the LESERKREIS DAHEIM (Home Reading Circle) into a German media group and who, after the Second World War, had to build his life's work a second time. The portrait of a successful entrepreneur is also a reference book about the history of the German media.
